Show Support for Increasing NYS Tuition Assistance Maximum Award

Friday, March 21, 2014

This week the New York State Legislature is debating an increase in funding to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). St. John’s University, in partnership with the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, is raising awareness about this timely and critical issue. We encourage you to share your personal support of the TAP Program with the New York State Legislature by Friday, March 21.

If you support giving deserving New Yorkers more grant aid for higher education, click here. By doing so, you will let your individual legislators and key New York State elected officials know of your conviction that TAP awards should be increased.

TAP awards for undergraduates have not changed in over a decade, and the current maximum TAP award is $5,000. The minimum award is $500. This academic year St. John’s University includes over 4,000 students who benefit from TAP.
