Letter from the President

Conrado "Bobby" Gempesaw, Ph.D.

The power, promise, and pride of a St. John's University education were apparent to all who attended Accepted Student Day for the incoming Class of 2022.

More than 2,100 prospective students and their families—over 6,000 people in total—recently visited our Queens, NY, campus to experience the myriad opportunities offered at St. John's. The day was also a celebration of, and a powerful testimony to, the extraordinary impact the University is making in the lives of our current students.

In this issue of The President’s Newsletter, you will learn more about Accepted Student Day, as well as the life-changing, and even lifesaving, experiential learning taking place at the University. New academic programs being offered at our campuses here and abroad reflect our innovative and outcome-driven approach to education and the global reach of St. John's.

In addition, we proudly introduce nine young alumni who share with us how their St. John's experience helped them make a difference in their professional and personal lives. A recap of our athletic season demonstrates our continued commitment to educating scholar-athletes who excel in the classroom and on the playing field.

At Commencement ceremonies this month, St. John's will celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating students who are ready to launch their careers and further their education. As we bid farewell to this year's graduates, we also extend a warm welcome to our alumni who will be returning to our campuses for our Grand Alumni Homecoming Weekend on May 31 to June 3.

These joyous occasions exemplify the commitment and the very continuum of our Catholic and Vincentian mission. We attract aspirational students and educate them so that upon graduation, they are prepared to make a difference in the world as they remain lifelong members of the St. John’s family.

As the 2017–18 academic year comes to an end, I proudly share with you some of the accomplishments and accolades earned by St. John's as we continue our enduring mission to ensure student success. I am also continually proud of the achievements of our students, staff, administrators, and strong alumni network that make St. John’s University the transformative place it has been for the last 148 years.

Sincerely,

Bobby Gempesaw signature
