Division/Department Information

The Department of Economics and Finance in the Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in fall 2022.  Approximately 3,200 students are enrolled in the Tobin College of Business – 2,400 undergraduates and nearly 800 graduate students.  Together they represent 36 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and 75 foreign countries.   The Tobin College of Business has AACSB accreditation.  For more information visit: https://www.stjohns.edu/academics/schools/peter-j-tobin-college-business

The Department offers BS/BA in economics in both the Tobin College of Business and St. John’s College of Arts and Sciences.  It also supports the undergraduate business core, graduate business programs and undergraduate and graduate programs in various liberal arts disciplines, including the recently launched MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.  Ability to work in a department that includes mainstream and heterodox economists is necessary.  For more information on the Department of Economics and Finance visit: https://www.stjohns.edu/resources/places/economics-and-finance

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate classes, ranging from microeconomics/macroeconomics to advanced electives.  The successful candidate will have experience in teaching in multiple modalities, including online, hybrid, and in person, and using a variety of course management systems.    Experience and a strong record in both teaching and research is essential.  Candidates who can contribute to the University’s Vincentian Mission are particularly encouraged to apply. 

Qualifications

 A Ph.D. in Economics is recommended.  While all specialization areas in Economics will be considered, Labor, Industrial Organization, Econometrics, Economic History, Poverty and Inequality and Economic Development are especially desirable.  Ability to teach a diverse student body is essential.

Qualification:

A Ph.D. in any business field, M.S. in organizational behavior, operations, statistics, human resources, management, international management, and/or industrial organizational psychology. Industry experience is highly preferred along with prior higher education experience in teaching business courses.  Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, willingness to teach in person on campus in Queens, Manhattan, or Staten Island.  Computer usage and application software familiarity is desirable and there is an expectation that the new faculty member will train on the use of Canvas, our university learning management platform and that you will complete a 7-week online teaching essentials course.

Department Information

The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science of the Tobin College of Business of St. John’s University invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level starting in Fall 2022.

 Responsibilities

 Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, service to the university, and advancing discipline-based research through scholarship.   Excellence in teaching and research, as well as a strong commitment to university service, are essential at the Tobin College of Business for tenure and promotion.  Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy and be able to integrate technology into teaching in face-to-face, online and hybrid modes.  

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Risk Management and Insurance or a related field is required for a tenure track position. All specialization areas in Risk Management and Insurance will be considered.  Preference will be given to candidates who can support the growth of undergraduate and graduate programs.
