The Division of Computer Science, Mathematics and Science offers 3 ABET accredited undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Cyber Security Systems and Information Technology. Additionally, it also offers undergraduate degrees in Networking Systems, and Healthcare Informatics, as well as master's degrees in Data Science, Computer Science, and Cyber and Information Security. The Cybersecurity Systems undergraduate degree is also part of an NSA designated Academic Center for Excellence. The Division also houses the Institute for Data Science and The Sanford Family Cyber Security Lab. This lab is just one of several innovative labs that help students master career-specific skills and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software, including 3D televisions and projectors, that give students the opportunity to utilize cybersecurity offensive and defensive tools to practice computer and network security techniques. 

Faculty in the division are active research scholars and also active members of various local and international professional organizations. Responsibilities: This is a teaching-intensive position (9-12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for research reductions. Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in computer science. Ideal candidates should possess university/college teaching experience, as well as a record of research and scholarly publications. We are especially interested in candidates experienced in software engineering, parallel computing, distributed computing, and operating systems. Other relevant specialization areas and certifications will be considered.

Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy and be able to integrate technology into their teaching practices.

We are especially interested in candidates experienced in multiple areas of cyber security and digital forensics, including digital warfare, protection of digital infrastructure, data risk management, intrusion detection and mitigation, security analytics, social media investigations, networking security, and healthcare information security. Responsibilities

The division is seeking candidates for all ranks at the adjunct level to teach mathematics courses face to face on the Queens campus in areas of Probability and Statistics, Calculus and Algebra.

Adjunct faculty work under the direct supervision of the Division Chair. Once assigned a course or courses, they are expected to:

  • Prepare and distribute to students a course outline in accordance with the course syllabus.
  • Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects, etc.) that will achieve the learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
  • Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic and constructive feedback to students in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Be available to engage with students outside the classroom by email, phone, web conferencing, or face-to-face meetings.
  • Evaluate student performance and post final grades for each student within the timeframe required by the Provost’s Office and be available for two weeks after the semester concludes to discuss final grades with students by email or phone.
  • Promptly respond to requests for information before, during, and after the course as required by the Division Chair and the CCPS Dean’s Office.

Qualifications

For all ranks, a master’s degree in the discipline or a related field is required. At the instructor level, relevant industry experience and college teaching experience is preferred. At the assistant professor level, college teaching experience is required. At the associate professor level, college teaching experience is required, and an earned doctorate in a related field is preferred. At the full professor level, extensive college teaching experience, and an earned doctorate in a related field is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake teaching (three to four classes per semester), research, service and student engagement activities.  Research productivity is important, but secondary to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to student engagement. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, academic assessment, and other activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean. 

Qualifications  

Ideal candidates will possess a doctorate in sport management, have experience teaching sport management classes as the instructor of record, and exhibit evidence of or the potential for research productivity. The area of expertise for this position is open, but there is a strong preference for candidates with teaching and research experiences in areas where existing full-time faculty do not currently have expertise. Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy (e.g., online learning, Canvas LMS) and be able to integrate technology into their teaching pedagogy.

Assistant Professor of Game Development and Emerging Media, Tenure Track

 The Division of Mass Communication seeks a dynamic scholar-practitioner for a full-time, tenure-track appointment (industry professional) as Assistant Professor of Game Development and Emerging Media, commencing September 1, 2024. The ideal candidate is skilled in transdisciplinary storytelling and can bridge game development techniques and interactive authorship to courses in film and other creative production-oriented disciplines.

Candidates sought are student-centered and produce research and creative achievements that enhance the constellation of programs in our Design Factory framework. They employ evidence-based practices to meet the interdisciplinary needs of our collaborative community.  Successful candidates will teach intermediate and advanced game development and film production/editing courses, guide students in project management, and facilitate games' successful release and promotion beyond the academic context.

Responsibilities

This is a teaching-focused position (teaching 12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for course reductions based on creative professional activity or research. Industry involvement, creative professional activity, and research productivity are important but secondary to a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student engagement. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, academic assessment, and other activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean. 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Terminal degree in game development or related discipline in interactive digital media.
  • Programming proficiency with a AAA-level game development platform
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate classes in (film) editing and production
  • College-level teaching experience (including teaching assistantships) or equivalent professional industry experience

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Epic Unreal Engine
  • Expertise in virtual production, xR/AR/VR/MR, and other visual storytelling forms
  • Integrative approach to pedagogy (e.g., fusing embodied cognition in UX, design patterns in OOP, etc.) 
  • Proficiency with C++, C#
  • Emerging professional research/exhibition record
  • Interest in development of serious games: visualization, simulation, and interventions towards social good
