    The 1971 documentary film began with the intention of portraying the Illinois Black Panther Party and its leader but shifted its focus when Hampton was killed in his home by the Chicago police department. What follows is an exploration not only of Hampton's life and the work of the Black Panther Party but also an investigation of police brutality, black life in Chicago, and the meaning of African American politics after the Civil Rights Movement.
