As a Catholic and Vincentian University, St. John’s is committed to serving the poor and the marginalized. No matter your faith or your beliefs, there’s a place for you at St. John’s and innumerable ways for you to get involved. Here are just a few.

Reason 87

Our Interfaith Council finds unity in our diversity and fosters an environment of respect, understanding, and empathy.

Reason 88

St. John’s is driven by the legacy of St. Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians), and we advocate for the poor and marginalized. The St. Vincent de Paul Society chapter at St. John’s—the first collegiate chapter of this international organization in the US—focuses on both direct and indirect service to help St. John’s students and those they serve grow in faith.

St. Thomas More Church

Reason 89

St. Thomas More Church is the spiritual heart of St. John’s Queens, NY, campus, and is the site of twice daily Mass every Sunday through Friday.

Reason 90

The Ozanam Scholars Program is home to students who embrace the University’s unending pursuit of social justice. Through academic scholarship, Vincentian service, and global citizenship, Ozanam Scholars take action to advance social justice throughout their college years and beyond. Students in the program are eligible for an annual, renewable scholarship of up to $10,000.*

Reason 91

Students in the Catholic Scholars Program are part of a multidisciplinary community of Catholic leaders who join professors and campus ministers in monthly meetings, lectures, retreats, courses, and prayer experiences that integrate faith, reason, and service. Catholic Scholars also receive a $5,000 scholarship for each year of study.*

Reason 92

VITAL (Vincentian Initiative to Advance Leadership) offers members of the St. John’s community the opportunity to enhance their personal and spiritual values, deepen a commitment to service, and develop leadership skills in the Vincentian tradition.

Reason 93

Every year, St. John’s honors the University’s Vincentian heritage with the celebration of Founder’s Week, which combines lectures and prayerful reflections with tangible service opportunities.

University Service Day 2019 7x5

Reason 94

The cornerstone of Founder’s Week is University Service Day, in which thousands of students, faculty, and employees of the University join together to make the world—and the neighborhood—a better place. From soup kitchens to ball fields, it’s an amazing opportunity for Johnnies to embrace St. John’s Vincentian heritage by serving others. This year it is being held on September 25.
