University Writing Center
What We Do
The Writing Center supports your writing process in one-on-one consultations with student writing consultants. From brainstorming research topics to polishing a cover letter, we’re here to collaborate with you, in person or online. Make an appointment at https://stj.mywconline.com, using your SJU email address. We can’t wait to meet you!
How We Support Writers
Our writing consultants help students set and achieve their own writing goals. Whether you’re working on academic, professional, or creative writing, we are here to foster your unique voice and perspective. Rather than “fixing” your drafts, we provide a comfortable conversation for making choices about your own writing and revision process.
We offer three types of hour-long sessions: face-to-face, online, and e-tutoring. Each session lasts a full hour. In the first forty-five minutes, the writer collaborates with a consultant, and in the last fifteen, the consultant produces a client report form that summarizes what was achieved in the session.
- Face-to-Face consultations take place in person in the Writing Center.
- Online appointments are live sessions that allow the writer to interact with a consultant through a chat interface.
- E-tutoring allows the writer to upload their document and have it returned with comments and suggestions.
Book your consultation at WCOnline, using your SJU email to register for an account. (Here's a handy how-to video.)
In addition to working one-on-one with student writers, we host tours, workshops, writing events, and a low-volume study space, creating a vibrant community for all writers on campus.

My name is Teodita (Vanesa) and I am a junior majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Legal Studies. My dream is to become an attorney for the people and make my own non-profit organization for those who need legal help. As someone who wants to become an attorney, I’ve realized the power of writing when it comes to the legal field. For fun, I like to write about major events in my life in my scrapbook to look back on them. Hopefully when you book with me, I can help relieve some of your stress or worry about your writing tasks. See you soon!
Artina B.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hello! My name is Artina, I’m originally from New Jersey and currently a sophomore majoring in English. When I’m not reading or writing, I’m probably taking long walks listening to music, digital drawing, or watching movies in the theatre! Writing has always been the thing to sort out the chaos in my brain, allowing me to anchor my thoughts and feelings properly. Creativity is a very important thing to me, and I always encourage people to never be embarrassed about what they create! As a consultant, I’m very excited to help you find the kind of writing methods that work and create a collaborative environment. I look forward to working with you all! (:
Ioana B.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies | Queens Campus
Hey, hey! My name’s Ioana (pronounced ee-wah-na), and I’m a sophomore with a Communication Arts major and a Music minor. If my name didn’t give it away already, I also happen to be an international student:) Writing has always been a big part of my life - from the nonsensical diary entries that I wrote as a kid to the essays that got me accepted into University. Courtesy of that, I’ve experienced firsthand how impactful having a strained relationship with writing can be (writer’s block is my #1 enemy), which is why I’m grateful for the opportunity to help others foster that relationship. As a side note, I’m fluent in English, French, and Romanian, and I have a decent grasp of Spanish, so feel free to address me in whichever of those languages suits you best!

Hey! My name is Eirnan, and I’m a junior and an Environmental Studies major here at St Johns. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, where I spend most of my time listening to music, looking at interesting plants, or finding random garbage to put in my room. I love helping people with creative work and building worlds, but I’ve also got a ton of experience writing more formal papers. I look forward to seeing you (yes, YOU) at the writing center!
Annike E.

Odim K.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | The Peter J. Tobin College of Business | Queens Campus
Hello everyone, my name is Odim. I’m currently a senior majoring in economics here at St. John’s Tobin School of Business. While I’m looking to pursue a career in Business Sales and consulting, writing will always be my first love. Sparked by my 5th-grade English teacher, my love for poems and short story writing (along with reading whenever I have a moment to spare) has stood the test of time. Working at the writing center has allowed me to tap into that love more in the short time I’ve been here than in a long time and I appreciate it so much. I hope I can bring that love to every one of my consultations and help you grow that writing muscle so you can reach further than you ever thought you could.
Shu L.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies | Queens Campus
Hi there! I'm Shu, a senior majoring in communication arts with a minor in film studies. If I'm not on campus, you’ll likely find me sitting in a park with my journal, coffee hopping, or cozying up with a video essay. As someone who once struggled with writing but found my voice through short stories and screenplays, I understand the challenges that can come with putting pen to paper. As a writing consultant, I'm here to support you in overcoming your fear of writing and perhaps even discovering a newfound love for it! I look forward to working with you at the Writing Center ^_^
Devani M.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hello everyone! My name is Devani, and I’m a senior double majoring in History and English. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by literature, writing, and the humanities, believing they add depth and beauty to the world. Beyond academics, I love reading (of course!), training in classical dance, visiting museums, baking treats, and spending quality time with family and friends. Writing, to me, is a beautiful and transformative process, and as a Writing Consultant I’d be honored to work with you and will put my heart into helping you with your writing! I can’t wait to meet you all!
Isabella M.
Graduate Assistant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi! I’m Isabella, a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in English. A couple of my interests include spending time alone with God and hanging out with family. I also enjoy writing both independently and collaboratively! As consultants one of our prominent roles is to collaborate with you in ways that best support you in your writing process. Some of my favorite assignments to work on include narrative essays, research papers, and persuasive essays. But no matter the genre of your assignment, I’m happy to help make it shine!
Kat M.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi! My name is Kat! I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I’m a senior English Major with a minor in government and politics and an undergraduate writing consultant at the University Writing Center. Outside of campus, I dedicate myself to volunteering as a Girl Scout Junior Leader, Youth Mentor, and 3rd Grade Catechist. In my free time, I love to hyper-organize my Spotify playlists, go shopping for new stationery items, spend time with my dog, and write new story prompts. It is no surprise that my love for writing comes from my short stories, and I especially enjoy learning from other people’s writing. My goal as a consultant is to help you express yourself in writing and gain the confidence to press submit! I hope to work with you soon!! :)
Mallki M.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hey everybody, my name is Mallki! I’m a junior, from the Bronx, majoring in government and politics. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, listening to music, and watching movies. Throughout the years, I’ve had an off and on relationship with writing, going from complete distaste to writing for enjoyment and liberation. Working in the UWC has also helped me gain a new sense of confidence as an overall writer. As a writing consultant, I hope to support you in finding this confidence for writing, or further enhancing your relationship with it.
Nam N.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Greetings, I am a fellow student just like you! I enjoy immersing myself in a number of activities such as touching grass, agonizing over being hit in boxing club, and especially writing wondrous tales that would freak others out. Writing has always been a means of communication which allows me to fully express my thoughts without the restrictions of social anxiety and excessive nervousness. Wherever one’s emotions can be exquisitely portrayed, whether it be any sort of story or even artworks like tattoos, I will flock to it like a crazed hyena with the same creepy laugh that they have as well. Working at the Writing Center has allowed me to not only learn from the camaraderie of my peers, but also help you make your writing truly deep and close to heart!
Arianna P.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi, guys! I’m Arianna, a junior English major from Staten Island :D In my downtime I love to write short stories, read, scribble in old sketchbooks, and bake! I like to say that writing, rather than a person, is the eternal love of my life, and I love sharing that love with other people just as much. Helping other people grow and see their potential has always been a calling for me alongside writing, so being a writing consultant is like the ultimate best of both worlds! I’m so excited to meet you all, and I look forward to working with as many people as I can!! (I’m this !!! in real life, so the exclamation points are NOT just hyperbole!)
Alexandra P.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi everyone, I’m Alexandra! I’m a junior BA/MA English student with a minor in psychology and an Undergraduate consultant at the University Writing Center. I am also the Features Editor of The Torch, the student newspaper on campus. In my free time, you can find me reading (of course), rewatching “Gilmore Girls” and “Survivor,” and spending time with my loved ones. I’ve come to discover my love of writing in recent years, and I’ve become especially passionate since beginning my English degree. I look forward to helping others find their voice and grow to view writing as a joy, not a chore.
Adrianna P.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi guys! I'm Adrianna and I'm a pharmacy student and an Undergraduate Writing Consultant here at the Writing Center. I'm from Queens, NY and I spend my free time doing tech for theater, listening to music on my record player, and watching professional wrestling. I love to read, and as a pharmacy major I understand how important it is to stay connected to the arts while spending a lot of time with STEM related activities. Olivia R.
Graduate Assistant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
My name is Olivia and I am a Graduate Assistant at the Writing Center pursuing my master's in English! I would love to work at a publishing house or become a writer. I like to believe myself to be a creative and compassionate person, so when I work with other writers, I like to try to put myself in their shoes. I can be very open and talkative, and I find with other writers this can be comforting, because no matter the topic, I know I can connect to them and find something relatable to say.
Chloe R.

I especially love Carnival time! A fun fact about myself is that I like to visit art exhibitions. My #1 recommendation is to visit Dia:Beacon, which is about a two-hour drive from Queens, and totally worth it. I also enjoy listening to music, pop culture, and of course writing. I hope to share my enjoyment and support to anyone who comes into the Writing Center!

Hey everyone! I’m Nick, a Sophomore majoring in English with a minor in Philosophy, and I’m from here in Queens. Outside of working here at the Writing Center, you can find me at the St. John’s Basketball home games as a trumpet player for the Pep Band (Go Red Storm!!!). Other than that, I enjoy weightlifting, training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, traveling, and enduring the torture that is watching the New York Mets. Owen T.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | St. John’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Howdy, my name is Owen. I’m a senior majoring in English from Syracuse, NY, and a recent hire at the University Writing Center. I come from a family of professors whose jobs I am trying to steal, and my employment here is the first step to a (hopefully) long career in education that I wish to pursue. I’ve always felt very comfortable writing, I wrote a lot of very annoying short-stories and plays in high school, and I know for a fact that I can help infuse your work with “the good stuff.” I also enjoy art house cinema and playing the banjo.
Anastasia T.W.
Undergraduate Writing Consultant | College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences | Queens Campus
Hello everyone, my name is Anastasia. I'm a junior majoring in nursing from Long Island, NY. In my free time I love working out, listening to music, watching early 2000s movies, and playing basketball. Although at times I claim to dislike it, writing has been a long-standing passion of mine. It has allowed me to creativity express myself in ways my words, sometimes, can’t put together. I'm honored to be a part of the team here the Writing Center, and I hope my participation will aid my clients and coworkers as I continue to put my best foot forward! Can’t wait collaborate with you!
Thomas DeAngelis
Assistant Director | St. John's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences | Queens Campus
Hi everyone! My name is Thomas and I am the Assistant Director of the University Writing Center at St. John’s University. I earned a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Brooklyn College. I am thankful for the opportunity to engage with students’ writing. In consultations, I encourage writers to 1) explore their ‘whys’ for each piece of writing they show up to, 2) learn how to revise their own writing, 3) be patient with themselves throughout the writing process - even this short bio took several drafts to complete!
