The Office of Grants and Sponsored Research would like to announce the remaining dates of our Grants workshops:

Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Sullivan Hall Room 214 Funding Source Workshop – COS Pivot for Researchers, Faculty, Graduate Students and Staff: Please join special guest speaker Chris Horn of RefWorks-COS.  Mr. Horn will conduct an exciting interactive workshop in which he will provide detailed instruction through hands-on engagement in the use of the Community of Science (COS) Pivot funding opportunity database – an online resource currently at the disposal of the St. John’s Community. This search engine provide records for thousands of grant opportunities offered through a wide variety of  Federal and private sponsors for purposes such as research, travel, curriculum development, and so much more! 

To accommodate full attendance, the OGR has scheduled two sessions on Wednesday, October 5, Sullivan Hall 214.

  • Morning Session: 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (75 minutes)
  • Afternoon Session: 2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. (75 minutes)


Proposal Budgeting (Thursday, October 20, Marillac 137 from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.): Learn the basics on how to create a winning budget for a grant proposal. This session will explore the fundamentals in allocating direct costs, indirect costs, fringe benefits, and explain as to how they all relate to one another within a grant proposal. In addition, you will learn specifics pertaining to allowable costs vs. unallowable costs, as well as how a budget should properly reflect your narrative.

The STJ Grant Application Process & Electronic Submissions  (Thursday, October 27, Marillac 137 from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.): The submission process for all outgoing Federal grant proposals has transitioned to electronic formats- paper submissions and Xerox machines are nearly things of the past. All Federal proposals are mandated to be submitted through Grants.gov; this session is designed to prepare you for the process of submitting your proposal through this server. In addition, we will discuss the internal process pertaining to submitting a proposal to an external agency through St. John’s University.
