Housing Selection

The Housing Room Selection Process allows students to select their residential community, room, or apartment and roommates for the upcoming semester/academic year.

Housing Room Selection is completed in three steps:

Spring 2017

Step 1: Submit Spring New or Continuing Housing Selection Deposit

Submit Spring New or Continuing Housing Selection Deposit

Housing deposits will be accepted starting Monday, October 17, 2016 until 3 p.m. (EDT) on Friday, February 10, 2017.

To make the online payment, log in to UIS. You can make a credit card deposit over the phone to our customer service center at 718-990-2000.

Mailed checks must be made payable to "St. John's University." Please include the student ID number and "Spring Housing Selection Deposit" in the memo line. Do not mail checks to the Massachusetts address.

Your account will be reviewed for eligibility at the time of receipt by Student Financial Services.

Important Note: Any prior financial obligations to SJU must be satisfied in order for a housing deposit to be accepted. Credits on student accounts from current or past semesters may not be used to satisfy a housing deposit for the Spring 2017 process. Please note that a housing deposit does not guarantee participation in the Housing Selection Process.

Step 2: Online Application

Apply and Sign Agreement via Housing Portal

The application may only be submitted online via the SJU Housing Portal. The completed application will be due by 4:30 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

If you have an active Spring 2017 housing deposit, you will receive access to the online housing application. During this step you will be required to complete your Housing Application, Housing Agreement, and Student Profile. The University requires any continuing students to have a 1.95 GPA or higher, enrolled full-time, and pass the student conduct review to participate in the housing selection process.

Important Note: Completion of Steps 1 and 2 does not guarantee a housing selection appointment or a housing assignment. Housing selection appointments and housing assignments are based on available spaces.

Step 3: Selection Days

Select Your Room, Roommates, and Meal Plan via Housing Portal

On December 2, 2016 you will receive your Housing Portal Lottery Appointment date and time. You must login to the Housing Portal on your scheduled appointment date and time to review the room search wizard for available spaces, select your room, and choose a meal plan (if applicable). We anticipate selection days to occur the week of December 5, 2016.

Important Note: Community living options are clustered by student classification and compatibility (Freshmen buildings, Sophomore buildings, Junior/Senior buildings, Transfer buildings, Graduate apartments, and Law apartments).

Step 1: Submit $500 Fall Continuing Housing Selection Deposit Online

Online deposits will be accepted starting Monday, January 9, 2017, until 3 p.m. (EST) on Friday, March 10, 2017.

To make your deposit, your tuition account must be free and clear of balances at the time of deposit. Please review any outstanding financial or documentation requirements prior to the Housing Selection Deposit period.

To make the online payment, log in to UIS. Once logged in, please click on the Student tab and then Student Accounts > Student Account Suite. The system will redirect you to the Touchnet site. Once redirected, select the eDeposits tab and then select the Fall 2017 term. Select Fall Continuing Housing Deposit and click submit. You will then be directed to payment options.

You can make a credit card deposit over the phone to our customer service center at 718-990-2000. Your account will be reviewed for eligibility at that time.

Housing deposits will not be accepted after 3 p.m. (EST) on Friday, March 10, 2017. If you do not provide a deposit by the deadline (late or unable to pay by deadline), you will not be eligible to participate in Housing Selection Process but will be invited to participate in our Housing Intent Process. Sign up for the Post-Selection Housing Intent process is scheduled to begin Monday, March 20, 2016.

Students who wish to have their housing deposit returned must submit requests by 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017. Housing Deposit refund requests received after 4:30 p.m. (EST) March 20 will be declined, and the student will forfeit the $500 housing deposit.

Important Note: Any attempt to pay a deposit with an outstanding balance or documentation issue will not be reflected as a housing deposit payment. Credits on student accounts from current or past semesters may not be used to satisfy a housing deposit for the Fall 2017 process. Please note that a housing deposit does not guarantee participation in the Housing Selection Process.

Step 2: Online Application

Apply and Sign Agreement via Housing Portal

The application may only be submitted online via the SJU Housing Portal. The completed application will be due by 3 p.m. (EST) on Friday, March 17, 2017.

If you have an active Fall 2017 housing deposit, you will receive access to the online housing application. Your student account also must be free and clear of any University holds and/or outstanding balances in order to maintain full access to the online housing application process during the application period. During this step you will be required to complete your Housing Application, Housing Agreement, Student Profile, and Roommate Search and Selection. Please note housing eligibility is determined by a student's conduct history and academic GPA standing. The University requires our continuing students to have a 1.95 GPA or higher to continue in the process for housing.

If you have an active Fall 2017 housing deposit, you will receive access to the online housing application. During this step you will be required to complete your Housing Application, Housing Agreement, Student Profile, and Roommate Search Wizard. Please note housing eligibility is determined by a student's conduct history and academic GPA standing. The University requires our continuing students to have a 1.95 GPA or higher to continue in the process for housing.

If eligible to move forward in the process, your e-mail notification will contain details of your eligibility and next steps in the housing selection process. You will be notified of your eligibility to continue in the process via your SJU e-mail account by Tuesday, March 21, 2017, informing you if you have been selected or disqualified from moving forward in the Housing Selection Process. Students who have been disqualified from the housing selection process and have entered into a roommate request agreement should consider notifying potential roommates of their change in eligibility so that those students may search for other roommate options in the portal.

Step 3: Selection Days

If you are eligible to participate in Step 3 you will receive your Housing Portal Lottery Appointment time. You must login to the Housing Portal on or after your scheduled appointment date and time to review the room search wizard for available spaces, select your room, select your roommate, and choose a meal plan (if applicable). We anticipate selection days occurring early April of 2017 prior to the Easter recess.

Important Note: Regarding housing availability and compatibility, continuing student housing spaces are limited and require review of every student requesting to continue to reside in University Housing. As a continuing student, you will have the opportunity to request roommates through our application process, so please begin to have honest conversations with classmates to identify a priority list of the communities in which you wish to live. Community living options are clustered by student classification and compatibility (sophomore buildings, Junior/Senior buildings, Graduate apartments, and Law apartments).

Do you need to confirm that you or your future roommates have paid the $500 Housing Deposit? The list shows those with an active payment for the $500 housing deposit for the Housing Selection Process. 

Note: Names will display alphabetically with the full last name and the first 4 letters of first name. The list will remain available and updated periodically throughout the deposit and application deadlines.
