What is SWELL?
The department of Student Wellness (SWELL) was created with you in
mind. We believe that one key for a successful college career
is learning to take great care of you! Our team of dedicated
professionals and peer educators are a resource you can count on to
help you create a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
At St. John's, we take a "holistic approach" to Wellness.
We like to look at the "whole" and follow a model of
Body-Mind-Spirit. The six dimensions on the SWellness Wheel

Your college years are a time to learn many things and that
includes how to take the best possible care of yourself. It
is now your responsibility to make healthy choices to handle
stress, to stay well, and to move and feed your body.

BECOMING THE HEALTHIEST CAMPUS IN
February 6, 2013: Dr. Kathryn Hutchinson, St. Johns’ Vice
President for Student Affairs, together with representatives of
SWELL and the SWELL Peer Educators, presented Mr. Jeff Alter,
UnitedHealthcare CEO and St. John’s alum, with a “Certificate of
Appreciation” honoring the establishment of a joint partnership to
make St. John’s one of the healthiest campuses in America.
In 2012, SWELL created a strategic partnership with
UnitedHealthcare in a series of wellness initiatives designed to
improve the health and well-being of St. John’s students. The Goal:
to become one of the “healthiest college campuses in
America.” In Spring, 2013, SWELL launched a Healthy Student
Initiative: The SWELL S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Action &
Responsibility) Program featuring a semester-long challenge
designed to get students to set and meet their health &
