1. What is a Meal Plan?
Pre-purchased plan that allows you to dine at on-campus locations using a “Meal Swipe” or “Points” associated with your Plan. At the start of each semester, all plan participants receive $50 Points on their StormCard. Once the two-week enrollment period ends, students will receive the balance of their Points based on their choice of Plan.

  • Queens Meal Plan Options: 7,10,14, 19 and Carte Blanche include Three Guest Meal Swipes per semester.
  • Seven Meal Swipes per week. (One per meal period) + $100 Meal Plan Points per semester
  • 10 Meal Swipes per week. (One per Meal Period) + $300 Meal Plan Points per semester
  • 14 Meal Swipes per week. (One per meal period) + $200 Meal Plan Points per semester
  • 19 Meal Swipes per week. (One per meal period) + $50 Meal Plan Points per semester
  • Carte Blanche Platinum. (unlimited access to Montgoris) + $50 Meal Plan Points/semester
  • Carte Blanche Gold. ( unlimited access to Montgoris 10:30 a.m. to closing) + 200 Points per semester.
  • Staten Island and Manhattan Meal Plans consist of Points only.


2. Are Meal Plans mandatory?
Yes, for all Queens and Manhattan students living on campus (excluding Queens Town House residents), and for all Staten Island Freshman residents.


3. How does a Meal Plan Work?

  • Each “Plan” includes a fixed number of meals per week along with designated Meal Plan Points per semester. See “Queens Meal Plan Options” above for details.
  • Students are responsible for managing their meal plan “Swipes” and “Points.”
  • The meal plan week starts each Sunday with Brunch and goes through Saturday dinner. “Meal Swipes” do not carry over week to week.
  • Definition of Meal Plan Terms:
    • Meal Swipes - Is when you use your StormCard to gain entry or to pay for your meal at Montgoris Dining Hall and all Meal Plan exchange locations.
    • Meal Plan Points - Meal Plan Points are equivalent to a $1 value and are accepted at all food service locations. Meal Plan Points are tax exempt.
    • Dining Dollars
      • Points you add to your StormCard. Accepted at all dining locations.
      • Dining Dollars expire each year on May 31.
      • iDeposits of $100 or more receive a 10% Bonus. ($100 deposit = $110 Points)
      • Dining Dollar purchases are TAX EXEMPT saving over 8% for each purchase.
      • 10% Bonus + Tax savings equates to over 18% benefit to the user.
    • Flex Dollars - Taxable
      • Points added to your “Flex” account are accepted at all dining. locations, on-campus bookstores, printing and vending locations.
      • Flex Dollars never expire.
      • Vending machines with card readers accept only “Flex” Points.
    • Meal Period
      • Is the time the meal period opens until it ends
         

4. Are unused Meal Plan Points refundable?
No. However Meal Plan Points do carry over from the fall to spring semester.
 

5. How can I check the balances of my dining account?
Log in to St. John’s UIS and select “Manage Your Storm  or stop by the Office of Financial Services.


6. Can Meal Plans be changed?
Yes. Meal Plans can be changed within the first two weeks of the semester at the Residence Life Office during regular business hours.

7. What is a Meal Exchange?
It allows you to use one Meal Swipe for a specified retail value and is limited to one per day at noted locations.


8. What are the Meal Periods and how many meals may I use per period?
There are now five Meal Periods – you may use one Meal Swipe per period:

  • 7 – 10:30 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
  • 3:30 – 8:30 p.m.
  • 8:30 – 10 p.m.
     

9. May I convert my Meal Plans points into flex points?
No.


10. May I use Meal Plan Points in food or beverage vending machines?
No. Vending machines only accept StormCard “Flex” dollars.


11. Are meal plans available to anyone?
Yes. Anyone can voluntarily opt into a meal plan.


12. If I have a restricted diet, can dining services accommodate special needs?
Yes. Most often the dining staff can accommodate special dietary needs upon request.

  • Montgoris offers an all-you-care-to-eat fare Monday – Friday, Saturday/Sunday brunch and dinner
  • Customers are NOT allowed to take food, china, cups or silverware from the dining hall
  • St. Vincent’s Café is open to all seven nights a week
