The Customer Service Center came into existence in 1998,
supporting all areas of the Enrollment Management Offices,
such as Admission, Registrar and Student Financial Services.
The objectives of the Customer Service Center are to:
- Provide professional customer service to students, their
parents and all members of the University
- Provide a one-stop shop where people can get answers to their
questions
- Alleviate departmental phone call volume, improving
efficiency so personnel are better able to serve walk-in
customers
The CSC has expanded to assist with a variety of
calls, which go beyond the four original areas we support.
The representatives use numerous resources (WEB, Customer Service
Manuals, brochures and their extensive knowledge of St. John's) to
obtain answers to the caller’s questions. In recent years our
number of customer service representatives has increased, and
the school operators have been incorporated into our
department.
As with most University departments, the CSC is limited as to
the information they can release regarding a student by the federal
governments guidelines of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act). We may only discuss a student’s account with the
express consent of the student.
We never release addresses, telephone numbers, or
GPA’s without the student’s prior written request. The
chief exception is reporting enrollment and addresses to
lenders of federally guaranteed loans.
We strive to satisfy the customer’s needs in a timely and
friendly manner and we make every effort to be the “problem
solver."
