Personal Counseling

What is counseling?
Counseling is simply a helpful conversation geared toward a topic you choose. At our Center, a trained professional helps an individual or group come up with their own solutions, activities and plans to deal with issues and/or problems in their lives.

In an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality, the Counselors help deal with:

  • Personal and family issues
  • Social and peer difficulties
  • Academic and career orientation problems
  • Substance abuse or dependency issues
  • Diversified issues brought up by members of the University community seeking assistance

Academic and Vocational Testing
Through the use of psychological and educational tests, the Counseling Center can identify:

  • Different learning styles
  • Deficits in study skills
  • Positive and negative personality traits
  • Vocational and career orientation

Your test results will be analyzed and explained in an individual counseling session. Reference to both national and local norms makes interpretation meaningful. At the Counseling Center, academic, vocational or personality tests are only used to aide students – never to categorize or restrict a student's opportunities. With close to 100 different testing instruments, ranging from diagnostic inventories to vocational interest blanks, the Counseling Center maintains an up-to-date professional resource available to all members of the University community.
