Prepare for the Fair

Employers from various fields come to campus several times each year offering advice about careers in their organizations and seeking to meet qualified candidates to fill salaried internships, part time and full time positions. View our Event Schedules for the date of our next Fair.

Tips to Help You Make the Most of the Career / Internship Fair:

Have A Plan

  • Find out what companies are attending by visiting University Career Services a few days before the fair
  • Determine what companies you are most interested in and view their websites
  • On the day of the fair, 'walk' the fair and determine where employers are located

Go Early

  • Be there when recruiters are fresh, alert and attentive
  • Arrive before the majority of other students get there

Have a Prepared Pitch

  • Prepare a clear, specific description of yourself, your area of study, experience and what you want to do

Get A Card

  • Get a card from everyone you speak to
  • Write interesting facts, notes or additional contact names on the back of the card
  • Use this information to do follow up with the recruiter

Dress Appropriately

  • Men - wear a suit or nice pants
  • Women - wear a suit or a dress shirt / sweater (No jeans, sweatpants, caps, t-shirts, sneakers)

Be Open Minded

  • Consider companies you are not familiar with and that aren't crowded with potential candidates
  • They sometimes offer better opportunities

Follow Up

  • Follow up with recruiters immediately after the fair (within a day or two)
  • Send an email or written letter
  • Remember, 'the harder you work, the luckier you get'
