Individual Advisement
A Career Center advisor
can meet with you one-on-one to help you develop a job search
strategy, review and revise your resume and cover letter, perform a
mock interview, talk about various networking and salary
negotiation strategies and more. This all depends on your
individual needs.
Self-Assessment
Advisors can assist you in exploring your skills,
interests and values via computerized career guidance tools
including the Myers Briggs Type Indictor, Strong Interest Inventory
and more. When considering your career options, it's
essential to recognize what you are good at, what you like to do
and what you consider important in your life. Everyone is
unique, and employers will expect you to know yourself and what you
have to offer their organization.
Resources
The Career Center and the St. John's University library
have several books, magazines, company directories, videos and
useful handouts for you to begin exploring career opportunities
within your industry of interest. In addition, our website
has full-time job and internship listings along with several links
specifically tailored for your industry of interest at
MBA/MS Resources.
Connect with Alumni
The Career Center and the Office of Alumni Relations have
developed an alumni mentor network titled
COACH (Count on Alumni for Career Help). This is a
database of St. John's alums who have volunteered their time to
current students. This could include an email, phone call or
informational interview with a St. John's alum who is currently
working in your area of interest. Click here for
information on networking events sponsored by the Office of Alumni
Relations.
MBA/MS Events
The Career Center plans a host of events specifically
designed for Graduate Business Students and Alumni. Whether
you are beginning your career or are a seasoned professional, these
activities will enhance your own career planning strategies and
serve as an excellent opportunity to network. For more
information on these events, go to MBA/MS Workshops &
Events.
Employer Programs
The Career Center sponsors two annual career fairs,
virtual fairs and employer panels. In addition, the Career
Center's On-Campus Recruiting is held from September to May every
academic year and offers students the opportunity of interviewing,
prior to graduation, on and off campus for full-time career
positions with employers looking to hire SJU graduates.
Representatives from many organizations come from a variety of
fields such as business, non-profit organizations, government
agencies and more. Several companies also hold employer
presentations throughout the academic year-on-campus informational
sessions where company representatives talk about their
organization and existing opportunities within that company.
