Is Graduate School for You?
Before you begin the process of preparing, choosing and applying to
graduate school you must research your field of interest to learn
where graduate school fits in to your career goals.
- Is a graduate degree a prerequisite for entrance into your
field?
- Will a graduate degree provide opportuniites for advancement in
your field?
- How important is work experience in your field in addition to a
graduate degree?
- Which should you obtain first?
Regardless of the field you pursue you must consider what type
of employment opportunities will open up to you once you have
completed your degree.
To research educational requirements for your field:
Will you be working full-time while going
to school?
If you are presently (or will be)
employed full time there are other considerations to think
about.
- Will your employer support your decision
to return to school?
Is the degree you are pursuing related to your current position or
field? Does that matter to your employer? - Will your education interfere with your
work?
- Will your employer be willing to adjust
your work schedule or responsibilities to assist you?
- Will your employer help defray the costs
of your education?
