Have you ever heard a student say… “If they won’t hire me
without experience, how do I get experience?” Many often face
this situation when applying for their first job out of
college.
- According to a press release from the National Association
of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers reported on the 2007
Recruiting Benchmarks Survey that two-thirds of interns are offered
full-time employment upon completion of
internships.
- Additionally, review of recent internship listings within
University Career Services identifies skills sets such as
communication skills, leadership and strong writing ability as
common requirements.
The ability to provide students with the venue to develop
marketable experience and necessary skills sets for internships and
employment success is easily accomplished given the wide variety of
industry specific (i.e., accounting, public relations, and
environmental safety) and career related (i.e., research, writing
and information analysis) opportunities right here on
campus.
The partnerships developed between University Career Services
and participating University Hosts (Departments/Faculty Members)
through the InSIDE St. John’s (Internal Student Internship
Discovery Experience) program will engage students early in their
career development providing a catalyst for their continued career
success.
