Accident and Sickness Insurance
St. John's University makes available accident and sickness insurance to all students through University Health Plans. The University requires all resident students and all international students holding F1 and J1 visas to have adequate health insurance coverage.

Health Insurance Rates for 2008-2009

  • Undergraduate Health Insurance Rates
    Residence Students              $ 931.00 per year
    International Students            $ 465.50 per semester
    New Spring 2009 Students   $ 634.00 per semester
  • Graduate Health Insurance Rates
    Residence Students              $ 1,251.00 per year
    International Students            $ 625.50 per semester
    New Spring 2009 Students   $ 846.00 per semester

Residence Students
The University will automatically provide and charge for health insurance for those residence students who have not waived the University provided insurance. The charge for insurance will be added to the semester invoice which is due and payable with the tuition and fee charges.  Residence students are required to submit their insurance information online at http://www.universityhealthplans.com/ to waive the insurance coverage by July 16, 2008.  Note:  Any resident student who does not complete and submit this waiver form online by July 16, 2008 will automatically be charged the health insurance fee on their tuition bill beginning July 17, 2008.

Commuter Students
Accident and Sickness Insurance is also available to all full-time and part-time commuter students. This insurance can be purchased by enrolling online at http://www.universityhealthplans.com/. The last day to enroll for Fall 2008 is October 5, 2008 and for Spring 2009 is February 5, 2009.

International Students
All F1 and J1 students admitted Fall 2006 and thereafter are required to participate in the St. John’s University’s accident and sickness insurance plan. This insurance is mandatory for the student’s entire enrollment at the University.

All F1 and J1 visa students admitted prior to Fall 2006:
If you are covered by another medical insurance plan with comparable benefits to this plan, you may request a review of your plan for a possible refund of the charge.  However, you must prove that your other insurance will be in effect for the full academic year August 15, 2008 to August 14, 2009.  Should your coverage terminate, your account will be billed for the St. John’s University student health insurance.  Present your proof of equivalent coverage (a copy of current insurance card or policy) to Student Financial Service Center before September 8, 2008.  A penalty of $50.00 will be charged to waive insurance after this date. Submit proof of insurance by mail, fax, or email to:
