St. John's College seniors chosen to attend the American Chemical Society (ACS) International-Domestic Student Summit (IDSS) 2012 in Raleigh, NC

St. John’s College seniors, Evijola Llabani and Milana Zirkiyeva were chosen from a national field of applicants as one of ten teams to attend the American Chemical Society (ACS) International-Domestic Student Summit (IDSS) 2012 in Raleigh, NC. The two Chemistry majors will represent St. John’s University and the New York Section of the ACS at the Summit and the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the ACS.  This opportunity will allow them to discuss scientific cross-cultural understanding, cross border skill flow, and increasing international collaboration.  In addition, Evijola Llabani was also chosen to present her research in a special poster session which she conducts under the direction of Dr. Richard Rosso on the development of novel ligands for rhodium catalyzed catalysis.

After the summit, Evijola and Milana will host an academic lecture series for international and domestic students who are either currently involved in research or plan to conduct research to learn about cross-cultural understanding, and international collaborations.  Furthermore, they will implement the practical findings at St. John’s University through the Chemistry Department. Their goal is for their peers to utilize their experience as a guide and inspiration to the research world. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to meet other students and discuss science on an international level while representing St. John’s University.
