St. John’s University Vincentian Center for Church and Society’s United Nations Forum Draws International Interest

A forum on "The Human Dignity of Women in Contemporary Society: Issues and Best Practices in Migration and Refugee Services" co-sponsored by St. John’s University Vincentian Center for Church and Society, the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations and the Path to Peace Foundation drew a crowd of more than 75 Ambassadors, Attachés and Delegates, Representatives of NGOs and others yesterday at the United Nations Headquarters.

The dialogue, which focused on social, economic and legal issues impacting women migrants and refugees within home and host countries, was a side event at the unprecedented session of the UN’s General Assembly on migration issues, which convenes today and tomorrow (September 14-15).

Distinguished panelists included Anastasia K. Brown, Director of Refugee Programs for Migration and Refugee Services of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; Mary Delorey, M.A., M.S.W., Catholic Relief Services  Strategic Issues Advisor-Latin America/Caribbean Region and Helene Hayes, RGS, Ph.D., International Research Project on Trafficked Women in Southeast Asia, Europe, and the USA.
