St. John’s Shocks Notre Dame at Garden Matinee

January 18, 2011

The Red Storm brought MSG to its feet on Sunday as it posted an impressive win over then No. 9 Notre Dame.

Thanks to second-half heroics from seniors D.J. Kennedy and Malik Boothe, St. John’s jumped out to a double-digit lead on the Irish and never looked back. It was the Red Storm’s second win this season against a nationally-ranked opponent.

St. John’s has continued to make national headlines for its strong play. The Red Storm’s impressive 4-2 BIG EAST record earned it 27 points in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Poll, ranking the team 36th nationally. The RPI (ratings percentage index) national rankings, which take into account strength of schedule, place the Red Storm at No. 13.

With the men’s basketball team off to its best start in years, this is one season you don’t want to miss. Be sure to pick up tickets to upcoming Red Storm games and support the Johnnies as they look to keep up their winning ways.

Also check out our pre-game receptions, which feature appetizers, drinks and appearances by Red Storm legends. Our next event will take place on Saturday, January 22, prior to the game against Cincinnati at Carnesecca Arena. Former St. John’s players Tony Prince ’73CBA, John Farmer ’76C, ’80L, Kevin Raftery ’75C and Bobby McIntyre ’66CBA will be in attendance.

St. John’s next game will be this Wednesday at Louisville at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on SNY.
