Alumni Show Their St. John’s Pride on Columbus Day

October 14, 2010

Wearing bright red sashes that identified them as members of the St. John’s University community, alumni joined students, faculty and staff for a brisk march up Fifth Avenue in the 2010 Columbus Day Parade. Participation in the parade has become a popular tradition at St. John’s, and the marchers happily acknowledged the waves and cheers that greeted them all along the parade route.

“St. John’s has a solid history of reaching out to the immigrant populations of New York,” noted William G. Schaeffer ’73CBA, Director, Office of Alumni Relations, “so it’s really appropriate that we take part in an event that honors one of the world’s most notable Italian explorers. And it’s always nice to see our alumni coming back to enjoy a St. John’s event.”

At the conclusion of the parade, the marchers gathered for a dessert reception at the University’s Manhattan campus.
