Alumni Show Their Red Storm Pride at Madison Square Garden

February 23, 2010

On Thursday, February 11, 2010 nearly 90 alumni and friends attended a festive reception prior to the St. John's University men's basketball game against the University of Louisville at Madison Square Garden.  The event was co-hosted by St. John's The Peter J. Tobin College of Business, the School of Risk Management and the Office of Alumni Relations.

As is typical at receptions such as this, guests enjoyed the opportunity to socialize with other alumni while staying connected to alma mater and enjoying an exciting BIG EAST basketball game.  Sharing their enthusiasm while getting into the spirit of the evening, many alumni wore the traditional St. John's colors of red and white.

"I usually come to one reception a year with some fellow classmates and clients, and they are always a good time," said Angelo Dell'Olio '80SVC. "The food, drinks and chatting with fellow alumni and friends makes this an enjoyable evening."

Jim Gallo '71Ed agreed, noting that the attraction of attending a St. John's game at Madison Square Garden was something he didn't want to pass up. "This is great," he said.  "I have not been to a ball game in a few years. I am thrilled to be here to support the team and the University."  The evening was made even more memorable for Gallo when he became one of the many raffle winners who walked away with great prizes that included future game tickets and a signed basketball by Hall of Fame Coach Lou Carnesecca.

The excitement of the alumni and friends was readily apparent throughout the game as
St  John's dominated Louisville to end the night with a resounding 74-55 win.

"This was an outstanding event, and the alumni and friends who came out to be with us saw a great game and had a really good time," noted Bill Lipson Assistant Director, Alumni Relations.  "These receptions are fun events, and they keep getting better and better."
