Visiting Your Student

Support, Understand and Accept

College has its share of disappointments and frustrations, indecision and insecurity. When your student talks about these commonplace worries, try not to counter by saying “these are the best years of your life” or “you worry too much.” Simply listening can be a source of encouragement. Help your student understand that every period of life has its share of joys and difficulties. Above all, provide a sympathetic ear and respond with understanding, acceptance and support.
