Laptop Program

Computers Land In Every Freshman and Transfer Student Lap at St. John's

When you enroll as a full-time freshman or transfer student at St. John's University, you get a wireless laptop computer for your entire St. John's career.

Go mobile with your lecture notes, homework, email, Internet, instant messages, you get the idea. Just another way St. John's prepares you for success -- in college and in life.

The objective of the Laptop Program is to give students equal access to technology and to provide faculty with a mobile computer option. The program began in Fall 2003, when all incoming full-time freshmen received notebook computers. As of Fall 2004, St. John's expanded the program to include all transfers and readmitted students.

Each laptop comes equipped with:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Office Professional
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • McAfee Anti-virus
  • Abundant computing power, memory, and hard disk space to last the student through graduation
  • Writable CD-Rom drives for backup and file transfer
  • 802.11b/g wireless, 10/100MB wired Ethernet, 56kb dialup modem and infrared

Full-time faculty members are also given an option to convert their desktop computers to the laptop platform. Docking stations are provided to ease the connection of their laptops to the faculty’s keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

Information Technology maintains laptops for the St. John's University students, faculty and staff. For information on laptop maintainence, please contact:
