I am pleased to advise you that Father Harrington has once again
approved a modified summer schedule for the University. The
University will be closed on Fridays, beginning May
20th, and continuing through August
12th. Please note we are scheduled to be off for a
Special Holiday on Monday, August
15th in observance of the Feast of the
Assumption.
As in previous years, there may be offices that require employees
to be present on some or all Fridays based on the requirements of
the department. However, when Fridays are not required as
part of a normal summer schedule within the department,
arrangements may be made at the manager’s discretion to provide an
alternate day off for staff employees who are asked to report to
work. Please be aware that this summer
schedule does not apply to certain departments or
positions due to the nature of work performed by those departments
or positions. If you have any questions about this, please
check with your supervisor.
For record keeping purposes, each Friday during
this summer period will be counted as a full workday for charging
vacation and sick time. For example:
- If you take vacation for the week of May 30th, three (3)
days will be counted as vacation time since Memorial
Day falls on Monday, May 30th and
Ascension Thursday, which is a holiday,
falls on Thursday, June 2nd.
- If you take vacation for the week of August 1st, five (5) days
will be counted as vacation time.
The only exception is if a “regularly scheduled
holiday” were to fall on a Friday in the summer, in which
case it would not be considered a vacation day. There are no
holidays that fall on a Friday this summer.
Please be advised that this modified summer schedule is an
exception to our normal University workweek and we will continue to
evaluate it on an annual basis.
Enjoy your summer!
