The dog days of summer are a time for fun and relaxation, and
members of The McCallen Society – donors who include St. John’s
University in their estate plans – certainly made that a
priority.

“We
held a number of exclusive events this past summer that our alumni
and friends really enjoyed,” said Susan Damiani ’87CBA, Director of
Gift Planning. “It’s always special to gather with members of The
McCallen Society, since they play such an integral role in the
future of St. John’s. So to catch up and reminisce with them,
especially when we’re at such great restaurants, is a blast.”
This past summer’s get-togethers included a dinner at the Heart of
Portugal restaurant in Mineola, NY, providing a delicious taste of
one of Europe’s most historic countries.
Meanwhile, the Sunset Dinner in Breezy Point, NY, held at Kennedy’s
Restaurant, offered a beautiful view overlooking the city skyline.
Members enjoyed a three-course meal and mixed and mingled as they
took in the magnificent Manhattan backdrop.
Guests delved into the healthier side of dining at the
Mindful Eating Luncheon at GustOrganics Restaurant in New York
City’s West Village. Known as the city’s first and only
USDA-certified organic restaurant and first in the world to use
100% certified organic ingredients, GustOrganics offered a chance
to speak with a knowledgeable nutritionist about healthy eating
habits prior to enjoying a delicious brunch.
Additionally, Diliberto Winery in Jamesport, NY welcomed over 50
alumni and friends for the Taste of Italy on the North Fork event,
providing guests with pasta, hors d’oeuvres and delicious wines as
they reminisced. Singer Tony Grant – formerly of the 1950s musical
group the Fireflies – performed songs throughout the program.
