Nature and Purpose of Agency
Immigrant workers center with the mission of fighting against the exploitation of Latino immigrant workers on Long Island and to achieve socioeconomic justice through the full political, economic and cultural participation of those workers in the communities in which they live.
 
Tasks Available for Students
Supporting industry based committees such as factory workers, cleaning workers, in writing letters, calculating wages owed, and planning activities, in resolving problems with unscrupulous employers.  Depending on student's language abilities, there are also opportunities to teach ESL classes, help write newsletters, or conduct research.
 
Time Requirements
Flexible, depending on student availability.
 
Student Awareness/Special Instructions
Each student is assigned to work with one specific staff person, depending on the area of interest and availability
