Nature and Purpose of Agency
There is shortage of food pantries in the South Ozone Park area. Some residents come as far as Flushing to Pastor Doris food pantry because there are either no food pantries in the area or they do not have enough food to give out to the general public. The Holy Ghost Upper Room Filling Station is a community church. We believe in doing what we can to make our community a safe and pleasant place in which to work, live and worship. 

Tasks Available for Students
Food Pantry

  • Patrons can select their own items to take with them; fruits, veggies, meat, frozen items, cereal, canned goods, etc.
  • Volunteers needed to help patrons select food items.
  • Volunteers needed to assist with the registration and intake of new clients (give them a number and I.D.).
  • Volunteers needed to help with the overhaul and organization of client information in Microsoft.

Time Requirements   
Food Pantry 10am – 12pm Saturdays
Assist with computer and data organization Monday – Saturday.  Hours are flexible.
Student Awareness/Special Instructions
*Students should volunteer in pairs or small groups.*
Holy Ghost Upper Room is a house Church.  Food Pantry is located in the back and very well organized.

By Car
Direction to the Mary Brennan INN – Van Wyck Expressway South toward Kennedy Airport.  Take exit 1E on the left toward route 27 East/Eastern Long Island/Belt Parkway East.  Take exit 21A toward Rockaway Blvd.  Stay straight and go onto N Conduit Ave/NY-27 W.  Make a right onto 147th St.  Make a left onto 133rd Ave.  House Church is on the corner.

Public Transportion
Take the Q30 Bus from Utopia Pky and Union Tp station heading to Jamaica.  Get off at Jamaica Av and Sutphin Blvd.  Take the Q40 Bus from Jamaica Av station heading to South Jamaica.  Get off at 133 Av.  Start out going East on 133rd Ave towards 144th St.
