Nature and Purpose of Agency
The Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) was formed in May 1983 by a group of activist residents and merchants. CHLDC is a not-for-profit community organization, serving 8,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of community service programs and neighborhood development projects.
YouthLEAD provides GED instruction and employment services for young people, ages 16-24 who are not in school or working.

Tasks Available for Students
Tutors Needed
•    Help support academic work; educational levels are from 8th grade to 10th grade.  Supervisory teachers will provide all materials and worksheets according to each student’s educational needs.  GED programs run Monday through Thursday from 4:30pm to 9pm.  (4:30pm – 6pm are elective courses such as job readiness, college Prep, life skills, computers and 6pm – 9pm are various GED courses from pre-GED to advanced).  TUTORS NEEDED on Tuesdays from 4:30pm – 6pm

Time Requirements   
Must complete at least 12 hours of service and commitment is needed every Tuesday during your service duration.

Take the Q46 Bus from Union Tpke and Utopia Pky station heading to Kew Gardens.  Get off at Union Tpke and 164 St.  Start out going West on Union Tpke towards 164th St.  Take the Q65L Bus from Union Tpke station heading to College Point.  Get off at Roosevelt Ave.  Take the Q19 Bus from Roosevelt Ave station heading to Astoria.  Get off at 98 St.  Start out going West on Astoria Blvd towards 97th St.  Turn right onto 97th St.  Arrive at 97TH st and Astoria blvd, Queens.
