Nature and purpose of agency
Urban Impact is an outreach ministry to unreached people groups
here in New York. Most of the people we minister to come from
closed countries where missionaries and evangelism are not
allowed. Presently, we are oversee two evangelistic ministry
centers: one geared toward Muslims from West Africans, and the
other center which evangelizes and serves Muslims, Hindus,
and Sikhs of South Asia.
Urban Impact Ministry, focuses on meeting the spiritual—as well as
physical & social needs of the Muslims of our target
neighborhoods. At our two ministry centers, we have many
classes and services for the immigrants. We eventually move
Christian missionaries into apartments which are near these Muslim
outreach centers. The UI missionaries lead ESL & citizenship
classes, computer classes, youth and teen programs. We also host
other special events in the summer and around holidays which serve
as platforms for evangelistic presentations.
Tasks available for students
ESL and Citizenship Classes
Volunteers needed to assist with ESL and Citizenship classes.
Women mainly attend the morning classes while men mainly attend the
evening. Class size can range from 4 students to 20 students
on any given day. Students have various degrees of English
knowledge ranging from no English to more fluent. Volunteers
do not need to be fluent or speak the native language (students are
mainly of the South Asian decent).
Time requirements
Classes run Monday through Thursday
AM Classes: 10am – 11:30am
PM Classes: 7pm – 8:30pm

Agency may be a little difficult to spot. There is no sign
indicating Urban Impact. There is a Beauty Salon next door
(Dulhan Beauty Salon) and a sign for MKD Karate on the door for
Urban Impact. Urban Impact is located on the 2nd floor and
make a left.

ISLAND EXPY via the ramp on the LEFT. Take EXIT 19 toward
RT-25/QUEENS BLVD/WOODHAVEN BLVD. Take the QUEENS BLVD ramp
toward RT-25. Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto HORACE HARDING
EXPY. Turn RIGHT onto QUEENS BLVD. Turn RIGHT onto
BROADWAY. BROADWAY is 0.1 miles past 55TH AVE. Turn
SLIGHT LEFT onto ROOSEVELT AVE. ROOSEVELT AVE is just past
74TH ST. Your destination is just past 73RD ST. If you
reach 72ND ST you've gone a little too far.
Public Transportation:
Start out going North West on Utopia Pky towards Union Tpke.
Take the Q46 Bus from Union Tpke and Utopia Pky station heading to
Kew Gardens. Get off at Queens Blvd and 78 Cr. 1 min
walk. Start out going South East on Queens Blvd.
Entrance near intersection of Queens Blvd and Union Tpke.
Take the E train from Union Turnpike - Kew Gardens station heading
Downtown / to World Trade Center. Get off at Roosevelt Av -
Jackson Heights. Exit near intersection of 74th St and
Broadway. 2 min walk. Start out going North West on
