Nature and Purpose of Agency
The Queens Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc. is a not-for-profit legal assistance program dedicated to providing attorneys on a pro bono basis to residents of Queens County who cannot afford to retain a lawyer to resolve their civil legal problems. 
The QVLP is likely to assist clients in civil cases pertaining to Uncontested Divorce, Evictions, Simple Will, and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.  QVLP does not provide “legal advice”.  If an applicant has met eligibility requirements, QVLP will provide free representation by a pro bono volunteer attorney.  QVLP assists approximately 5,000 clients per year. 

Tasks Available for Students

  • Screen applicants over the phone, intake spreadsheets (12+ hours over the semester)
  • Administrative assistance such as assisting with acceptance and/or rejection letters (less then 12 hours a semester)
  • Needs foreign translators (mainly Hispanic, some Creole, Russian or Italian) to assist at the DEBT Clinic on Fridays from 2pm – 4pm (no maximum number of service hours required)

Time Requirements   
Flexible; Monday through Friday 9am – 5pm

Start out going SOUTH on UTOPIA PKWY toward 80TH RD.  UTOPIA PKWY becomes HOMELAWN ST.   Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto 169TH ST.  Turn RIGHT onto HILLSIDE AVE/NY-25.  Turn LEFT onto MERRICK BLVD.  Turn RIGHT onto JAMAICA AVE.  Turn RIGHT onto 148TH ST.  90-35 148TH ST is on the LEFT.

Public Transport
Take the F train from 169 Street Station heading Downtown / to Coney Island.  Pass Parsons Blvd.  Get off at Sutphin Blvd.  Exit near intersection of Sutphin Blvd and Hillside Ave.  Walk South on Sutphin Blvd.  Turn left onto 90th Ave.  Turn right onto 148th St.  Arrive at 90-35 148TH St, Queens.
