November 10 - 14,
2012
Welcome to 100 Hours of
Poverty, an experiential poverty awareness event.
100 Hours asks you spend four days and four hours walking in the
shoes of one person experiencing “food insecurity.” Following
some simple guidelines, you will be asked to make meal choices on
just a few dollars a day - - the same kinds of food choices made by
families living at or below the federal poverty level every day
across the country.
The program begins on Saturday, November 10,
2012 at 8:00 am, and runs through Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at
12:00 pm. Each participant will be asked to spend no more than
$27.49 on food for the entire 100 hours. In the 100th
hour, the St. John’s University community is invited to a buffet
dinner and panel discussion about food insecurity, our social
safety net, and volunteer opportunities for helping to end
hunger.
