St. John's Presents "Three Things Catholics Should Know: The Book of Revelation"

St. John’s University and its Department of Theology and Religious Studies presents a series of talks for the People of God in the surrounding Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Center. The event will be held on Saturday, April 21 at the St. Thomas More Church on the Universities Queens campus.

This year’s focus is “Three Things Catholics Should Know: The Book of Revelation,” which is aimed at fostering catechesis and continuing education among Catholics and others who may be interested. The presentations are free and open to the public.

The topics and presenters are as follows:

Session I:        10:00 a.m. – Apocalypse Now or Then?

  • What kind of literature is the Book of Revelation?
  • Presenter: Dr. Frank Connolly-Weinert, Associate Professor

Session II:      11:00 a.m. – Revealing the Book of Revelation

  • What are some of the major themes and symbols in the Book of Revelation?
  • Presenter: Fr. Michael Whalen, C.M., S.T.D., Assistant Professor

Session III:     12:00 noon – The Beast, the Woman, and the Heavenly Liturgy

  • How has the Book of Revelation influenced Catholic spirituality, devotion, and liturgy?
  • Presenter: Fr. Michael Whalen, C.M., S.T.D., Assistant Professor
