St.
John’s Spanish Honor Society will be celebrating Poetry Month by
launching a commemorative issue of Entre Rascacielos, its
literary journal, on April 13 at the University’s Queens campus.
The presentation of a bilingual anthology, UNA DÉCADA DE POESÍA
EN ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY / A DECADE OF POETRY AT ST. JOHN’S
UNIVERSITY, will debut and displays the high quality of poetry
written in Spanish by University students as well as by invited
guests during the past ten years. Its editor, Dr. Marie-Lise
Gazarian, Director of the Graduate Program in Spanish at St.
John’s, states that the University is one of the few institutions
of higher learning that have given a strategic place to poetry
written in Spanish.
Epsilon Kappa will also launch GABRIELA MISTRAL Y LOS
ESTADOS UNIDOS, a compilation of articles written on the
Chilean Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, one of the most famous
poets and humanitarians. The book, published by the Academia Norte
Americana de la Lengua Española, will be presented by its Director,
Dr. Gerardo Piña-Rosales, Professor of Spanish at the Graduate
Center CUNY and well-known scholar. He will be interviewed by Dr.
Gazarian.
There will be a musical interlude with dances and songs.
The event begins at 6 p.m. in Bent Hall, Room 277 A & B , on
St. John’s University’s Queens Campus. Refreshments will be
served. All are invited.
