St John's University Debate Society has Great Success in
The St. John's University Debate Society cleared four teams to
quarterfinals and one to semifinals this past weekend at the
University of Massachusetts, Amherst invitational tournament.
Out of the field of 52 debate teams and 104 students debating this
weekend, St. John's represented four of the best 16 teams of
debaters at the tournament.
The team of Nelson Kezoh and Tim Barr reached the semifinal debate,
where they debated the motion, "This House would compel doctors to
report all suspected cases of spousal or child abuse to the

Kamya Chandra and George Fitzpatrick and Korey Pace advanced to the
quarterfinals of the tournament where they debated the motion,
"This House would substantially increase security cameras in public

The students debated against teams from the University of Vermont,
Cornell University, Patrick Henry College, The King's College,
Colgate University, The University of Rochester and Cape Cod
The next competition for the Debate Society will be held on the
campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury on the
weekend of February 25.
