Program Key

To get the most out of this development opportunity, collaborate with your supervisor to create a Development Plan.   All workshops will continue to be available individually apart from the certificate programs.

1New Employee Orientation: Applies only to staff and administrators hired after April 1, 2002. If not, substitute one elective PDU to achieve total PDUs required to satisfy this certificate.
2Workshops currently under development. Check the Training and Development Calendar of Events at www.stjohns.edu/td for the up-to-date workshop schedule.
3Diversity Awareness: The Diversity Awareness program listed in the Core is a new program as of 2006 and all staff and administrators are encouraged to attend. For the Management certificate, credit will apply to either the Diversity Leadership Experience or the Diversity Awareness program.
4External Programs
Institute for Management Studies (IMS) offers workshops that apply to the Management and Professional Development certificates.

External Professional Development for Staff should be related to your current position and paid for by your department budget. To qualify for credit (up to four (4) PDUs), you must submit documentation from the program provider and an explanation of how it relates to your job. When planning to attend any program, be sure to coordinate with your supervisor to make proper coverage and budget (if applicable) arrangements.
5Technology (CTE) courses are offered by the STJ Center for Technology Education (CTE). A maximum of four (4) CTE elective PDUs may be applied to a given certificate. Technology PDUs do not apply to the Basics series of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and File Management workshops. To enroll for a CTE workshop, access the Center for Technology Education on the STJ intranet.

Note: A staff member may waive out of a Core MS Word or MS Excel workshop by achieving an intermediate score for his or her job level on the Quiz Skills Test. Contact our Training Assistant at Ext. 2330 or td@stjohns.edu for more details.
6Course Prerequisites:Quality Service Module I and Business Writing Module I are prerequisites for subsequent modules. Subsequent modules may then be taken in any order.
7Responding to Sexual Assault on Campus: Sponsored by Department of Student Wellness and the General Counsel's Office, applies to the Management and Professional certificates and is by invitation only.
8Professional Development Certificate:Managing for Success, Hiring the Best: Interviewing Techniques, and Coaching for Exceptional Performance may be taken as electives providing you have your manager's approval and it is relevant to your current or future position.

Note: Completion of a certificate program is for development purposes only and does not guarantee a salary increase, or promotion. Advanced degree bonuses do not apply. STJ reserves the right to modify or discontinue these certificate programs at its sole discretion at any time.
