Job Description
Under the guidance of the Director of Judicial Affairs, the
Assistant Director will administer the non-academic judicial system
to include reviewing incident reports and formal complaints,
conducting preliminary investigations, determine responsibility,
conduct formal hearings and issue developmentally appropriate
sanctions. This individual will provide direct supervision
for all non-academic disciplinary matters occurring within the
residence communities on the Queens Campus. This is a 12-month,
live-in position with some Residence Life collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Serves as an on-call administrator, responding to emergencies
and student crises as needed.
- Coordinate, supervise and evaluate the Residence Hall Conduct
Board and administrative disciplinary proceedings; supervise
recruitment, selection and training of Conduct Board members and
advisors; advise and counsel accused students and board members
regarding University policies and procedures. Provide
counseling for students, particularly resident students, related to
disciplinary issues; refer students to and interface with
University departments for resolution of problems or
complaints.
- Respond to requests and questions and provide information on
programs, activities and policies for students, parents, University
representatives and others as requested and appropriate.
Coordinate the University’s parental notification program for
students who have been found in violation of the University’s
policies regarding alcohol and other drugs.
- Research, design, and implement training sessions and
presentations for relevant University constituencies, and serve as
resource and advisor on an ongoing basis; create and revise various
publications, and other written materials pertaining to University
disciplinary policies and procedures; prepare reports and analyses
setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate
recommendations or conclusions for senior University
officials.
- Manage, input, and compile judicial statistics via incident
tracking system; conduct training on the use of the incident
tracking system for judicial officers in the residence communities
on the Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan Campuses. Conduct
and evaluate a monthly review of all resident students with
multiple violations to evaluate continued good judicial standing,
and make developmental referrals when appropriate.
- Represents the Office of Judicial Affairs on university
committees, campus functions and various local, regional, and
national workshops and conferences. Assists with other Student Life
activities as assigned (i.e. search committees, Student Leadership
Network Retreats, Heritage Month committees).
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel
Administration, Sociology, or related field preferred;
- 2 to 3 Years (post-graduate) experience in the field of Higher
Education, specifically in a Student Affairs setting;
- Experience working with issues pertaining to Residence Life and
Student Conduct/Judicial Affairs is essential; additional
experience working with Campus Activities, Greek Life,
Multicultural Affairs and Orientation will serve as an asset;
- Must be task and detail-oriented, maintain excellent oral and
written communication abilities and be able to present information
to various constituencies.
Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and
contingent upon the departmental budget.
