Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Registrar for Customer Service, the Departmental Assistant is responsible for a key set of processes and functions including, but not limited to, registration, grading, and related academic records maintenance.  The Departmental Assistant has daily contact with students and works closely with our contacts in the colleges as well as with colleagues in offices such as the Student Financial Service office and with faculty.

Responsibilities

  • The core responsibilities of this position include registering students into classes and changing their programs, processing program adjustments, entering and changing grades, explaining related academic policies to students, internal transfers, transfer credits and working with faculty and others to ensure that academic record-keeping policies are adhered to.
  • The Departmental Assistant is required to participate in all front desk operations which includes, but is not limited to, answering phones and addressing all in-person inquiries, as well as assisting students with web registration, in-person and web transcripts and assists faculty with submitting grades via the web.
  • The Departmental Assistant also maintains bio-demographical information and assists students and faculty with all services available to them via the web.
  • Because this position deals with sensitive student information, it requires not only attention to detail and to academic policies but also integrity and respect for the confidentiality codes of the office, the University, and outside agencies including the federal government.
  • As is the case with all other positions in the office, the Departmental Assistant will have to work outside normally scheduled hours as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to use contemporary technology effectively, strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to work well with others.
  • Although the office provides training to all staff, previous experience with Banner or a like system and previous experience in a Registrar’s office or similar academic setting is strongly desired.

Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and contingent upon the departmental budget.
