Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Development for Major Gifts, the Major
Gift Officer will manage assigned portfolios of major gift
prospects and develop strategies for identification, cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship of major donors. Working closely
with academic deans and faculty, the MGO will identify key funding
opportunities and develop meaningful case statements that will lead
to successful solicitations.
Responsibilities
- Manage assigned portfolios of highly-rated school/college gift
prospects
- Develop strategies for the identification, cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship of 150 to 200 major gift
prospect and donors
- Cultivation of major gift prospects through 100-120 documented
contacts per month through visits, mail, phone, email, etc.
- Recommend suitable giving vehicles for a particular donor, when
appropriate, after evaluating various opportunities
- Expected to conduct a minimum of 120 face to face visits per
year that lead to 20-25 major gift solicitations of $25,000 or
more
- Work closely with his/her assigned Dean to identify potential
members of the Dean’s Advisory Board and then cultivate and solicit
their support
- Work with the School/College Dean, Director of Development for
Major Gifts and Director of Research and Prospect Management to
formulate proposal strategies
- Assist with efforts to secure funds for major University and
Mission related projects
- Oversee and coordinate communication with assigned prospects
including thanking the donor and other forms of stewardship
- The MGO will be expected to consistently track moves on a
weekly and monthly basis by updating contact reports every day and
preparing weekly and monthly activity reports that describe
cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities
- Interact with the School’s Dean, Department Chairs and faculty
to uncover fundable programs and initiatives and develop
proposals
- Work closely with other Advancement and University departments
to leverage events and activities to enhance prospect engagement
and stewardship.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and
experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to be a team
player and to motivate donors/volunteers.
- Proven 3-5 year track record of successful fundraising,
educational management or marketing/sales experience and the
ability to cultivate and develop leadership gift prospects and
secure major gifts.
- Position requires the interpersonal skills to interface with a
professionally diverse constituency group.
- A high level of energy, initiative and creativity is also
essential along with the ability to interface with a professionally
diverse constituency group.
Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience,
and contingent upon the departmental budget.
