Where do I find a list of open student worker positions?
Student worker may be found in the Recruitment section of the Human Resources Web site.

How often are the positions updated?
Most Student Worker opportunities become available at the beginning of each semester. It is wise to check the open positions frequently and apply early for the best chance of securing a position. Positions are added and removed as they are received and filled. There is not a specific day or time when the site is refreshed.

To access and complete the Student Employment Application:

  1. Log onto St. John’s Central with your User Name and Password.
  2. Click the secure University Information System (UIS) link.
  3. On the Student Information System page, select Student and Financial Aid.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select Student Employment Application.
  5. Click the job posting link to review all open positions.
  6. You may enter up to 3 different job IDs and continue by answering the required questions.
  7. When you have finished, click the Accept button at the bottom of the form.

A “Guide to Student Employment” brochure is also available by contacting the Student Employment Coordinator at (718) 990-2331. This document will be available on line shortly.

What type of prior experience do I need?
Essentially, no prior work experience is required for student employment. The available positions are designed to provide our students with a learning experience to gain basic skills in a variety of disciplines and compliment the St. John’s academic experience.

Are there different types of student employment?
Yes, there are two types of student employment both of which are defined below:  

Regular Student Worker
A student who is paid with funds that comes from the employing department. There are relatively few positions available in this category and students employed here not eligible for a work study grant.

College Work Study
A student who participates in a federally funded program awarded to matriculated students, with special emphasis on full-time students in need as defined by grant specific criteria. Academic progress is a requirement for continued eligibility.
