The 2013 Faculty Book Reception is closed to new
submissions.
The Institute for Writing Studies and the University Libraries,
in conjunction with the Office of the Provost and the Center for
Teaching and Learning, are pleased to announce the 16th
Annual Reception honoring those faculty members who have
published a book since March 2012.
The reception will be held on Monday, April 8,
2013 in the Institute for Writing Studies, St. Augustine
Hall, Room 150, from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. This event will
provide the University community, faculty, students,
administrators, and staff, an occasion to become acquainted with
the recent work of faculty colleagues. All books will be
displayed at the reception and during the Research Month Grants
Reception earlier in the day. Authors are encouraged to attend
the reception.
All full-time and part-time faculty members are invited to
participate. If you wish to participate, please click the link
and complete the online Faculty Author Submission
form. Submissions may include single-author monographs, edited
volumes, textbooks, and re-editions. If you have submitted
your work to the Office of the Provost since March 2012 you need
not re-submit. However, please email Dorothy Bukay
(bukayd@stjohns.edu) if you want to be included in the 2013 book
reception.
A version of the descriptions and comments and a snapshot of the
book cover will be printed in a booklet as a permanent record of
the event. To ensure that the booklet is ready for the
reception, all submissions must be received by February 4,
2013. If your book will be published in spring 2013
in time to be displayed at the reception please provide an image of
the book cover by February 4th. If you cannot meet
this deadline your book will be featured in the 2014 Faculty Book
Reception.
Please forward a copy of your book to Dorothy Bukay in the
Institute for Writing Studies no later than February
4th. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of
receipt. All books will be returned within two weeks of the
event. Or, please consider donating your book to the
University Library faculty collection.
We will feature a panel of 5 authors to speak for a few minutes
about their work as writers and researchers. This will allow
for informal time for all participants to talk with one another and
guests about their work, as well as to browse the featured titles
on display.
If you would like to be considered as a speaker for the panel,
please send an email to Dorothy Bukay (bukayd@stjohns.edu) with a
paragraph about what you’d like to share with your
colleagues. Please note “Reception speaker” in the subject
line. This is also due by February
4th. These proposals will be reviewed by
a committee after which five faculty members will be invited to
present on April 8th.
If you have any questions concerning participation or
submission, please contact Anne Ellen Geller at
gellera@stjohns.edu.
