Please join us on October 11, at 2:30 pm in the Institute for
Writing Studies, for the next installment in the English Department
Speaker Series. Our guest will be Matt Davis, Assistant Professor
of English at University of Massachusetts Boston.
Entitled ”Framing the US Presidential
Election: Rhetorical Situations, New Media, and the Public,”
his talk investigates the manner in which students frame their
understanding of, and engagement with, the 2012 presidential
election. He looks at students’ use of three frames — rhetorical
situation, new media, and the public– by examining work from
an undergraduate course focused on this year’s
election. His research interests focus on literacy, multimodal
and multimedia texts, and the relationship of technology and
composition.
