DEA National Drug Take-Back Day
April 28, 2012 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The Queens Campus at St. John’s University will once again
participate as a collection site for the fourth
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug
Take -Back Day event, on Saturday, April 28 from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Public Safety (ROTC building), Goethals
This year the event has been expanded to also include the Staten
Island Campus as a collection site. Participants can visit the 1st
floor Lobby of the DaSilva Academic Center.
The one day event, intended to bring national awareness to the
increasing prescription and controlled substance misuse,
demonstrates the continued collaborative efforts of St.
John’s University, Touro College, and Long Island University
to support Senator Charles E. Schumer’s initiative to combat the
ever-deepening prescription drug epidemic on Staten Island and
across New York State.
Unused or expired medications are a public safety issue, leading
to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse. DEA agents will be on
hand to collect and transport any unused, expired or unwanted
prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe destruction.
Medications with needles and syringes or other sharps cannot be
collected at this time. Pharmacy students and faculty from the
College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions will also be on
site to provide information and educational resources to the public
on safe disposal of medications and sharps and to answer drug
information questions. For more information about either of the St.
John’s University collection sites, please contact Dr. Sheila
Sarnoski-Brocavich, email@example.com ((718)
990- 2760). Additional collection sites can be found by visiting www.dea.gov.
