Queens Campus Opening School Mass of the
Holy Spirit
To:
University Community
From:
Rev. James J. Maher, C.M.
Executive VP for Mission and Student Services
Welcome back for our 2011-12 Academic
Year.
As you know, it is our custom at St. John's to begin each year
by coming together in prayer at the Opening School Mass of the Holy
Spirit. This year, the Mass of the Holy Spirit
will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at
12:15 p.m. in St. Thomas More Church.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of
Brooklyn, will celebrate this liturgy and Rev. Donald
J. Harrington, C.M., President of the University,
will be the homilist.
As always, we will commission and bless our student campus
leaders during mass. This is an important opportunity to pray with
and support our students as they begin their service to the
University. I ask that you make every effort to attend so that we
may pray together for our students and our community as a
whole.
I also want to remind you that we will gather together in prayer
on September 27 on the Feast of St.
Vincent at the 12:15 Mass. At this liturgy, we will bless
some of our employees who have emerged as Vincentian leaders. I
hope that you can attend this liturgy as well.
Thank you for all you do for our
students and University community. Please pray that God will
continue to bless all our efforts.
