An Active Role in the Community
Being a good neighbor is deeply engrained in the history and
mission of St. John's University. Since our founding in 1870,
St. John's has nurtured a strong sense of partnership with the
diverse communities of New York City - communities that entrust us
with the education of their young men and women.
Community service is part of St. John's heritage as a Vincentian
and metropolitan university. Today, our efforts to serve our
neighbors is principally realized through our Offices
of Community Relations and Community Business Development.
Office of Community Relations
Civic groups, arts agencies, and other social organizations
dedicated to community enrichment can find assistance through the
Office
of Community Relations at St. John's.
The Office
of Community Relations partners with varied groups to support
activities that benefit our neighbors in Queens and throughout New
York City. Free concerts, special events, blood drives, food drives, and charitable
efforts - these are among the community-oriented activities that
enjoy the University's support. For more information about
the Office of Community Relations, please call us at (718) 990-1941
(Queens) or (718) 390-4040 (Staten Island). Or email sciamej@stjohns.edu.
Community Business Development
Welcome to this important source of community support for
local businesses and business people striving to succeed in a
competitive environment that can be especially challenging to
traditionally underrepresented professionals.
Through the Office of
Community Business Development, St. John's University assists
minority, women, small, disadvantaged and local business
enterprises (M/W/S/D/LBE's) in their long-term growth and
development. In this way, the Office of Business Development
embodies St. John's commitment to the economic stability and
vitality of the community the University serves.
This commitment is rooted in St. John's Vincentian mission,
which focuses on service through education. Our commitment
also complements our University Diversity Initiative, which
identifies and addresses personal and social injustice.
We invite you to explore our policies and procedures and
participate in our competitive bidding process. Thank you for
your interest in the Office of Community Business Development at
St. John's University!
