Every May, St. John's Residence Life holds a move out
clothing and food drive called "Chuck It For Charity". The two day
event takes place in the Residence Village. Sustainability
Coordinators set up a tent where students can drop off their
unwanted clothing, shoes, linens, and unopened food item.
2012 - Chuck It For
Charity
The bulk of the food and clothing that were
donated were picked up by Roxana Roman, the International
Coordinator for the Teolinda Foundation in Ecuador. Through her
organization, Roman will send the items she collected to help the
many people who have been displaced by the flooding in Babahoyo,
Ecuador.
Jackets, gloves, scarves, hats, pillows and
small blankets were collected for St. John’s University’s Midnight
Run service and will be given to the NYC homeless this upcoming
winter.
We were also able to give some women’s
clothing and bedding as well as some home and kitchen goods and
nonperishable foods to John Vaval from Shiloh Bilingual SDA Church
who will be sending those items to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The remaining food items were picked up by City Harvest and the
remaining clothing was picked up by Wearable Collections,
NYC.
