Chuck It For Charity

Bulk of food and clothing were picked up by Roxana Roman, the International Coordinator for the Teolinda Foundation in Ecuador. These items will be sent to help the many people displaced by the flooding in Babahoyo, Ecuador.
Jackets, gloves, scarves, hats, pillows and small blankets were  collected for St. John's University's Midnight Run Service and will be given to the homeless this upcoming winter.

We were also able to give some women's clothing and bedding as well as some home and kitchen goods and nonperishable foods to John Vaval from Shiloh Bilingual SDA Church who will be sending those items to PortauPrince, Haiti.
The remainder of the items were picked up by Wearable Collections, NYC.

St. John's is proud to announce their submission for a presentation in the AASHE 2012 Conference in Los Angeles this October! This is a ten minute documentary on organic soils management with the help of all members of the St. John's community. Linked below we have the four minute preview.

Students Help St. John’s Reduce Carbon Footprint

St. John’s University has cut its campus carbon dioxide emissions by 13,498 metric tons over the past three years, equivalent to the amount of gas released by 2,747 vehicles during the same time period.

This achievement — which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) noted in its most recent assessment report — stems from the many innovative energy conservation and recycling initiatives the University has introduced since 2009.

These measures were taken as a result of St. John’s commitment to become a higher education
PlaNYC Challenge Partner and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2017. They are also a result of the University’s historic agreement with the EPA. “In 2008, we became the first private institution to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the agency,” said Thomas Goldsmith, Director of Energy and Environmental Conservation at St. John’s. “Under the terms of the memo, we agreed to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2017.”
