What are some examples of professional fields that may be applied toward Life Experience credit?
Some examples of professional backgrounds and experience that may count toward Life Experience credit are: business (accounting, finance, etc.), social work, ministry, law enforcement, legal, psychology, advertising, hospitality, public relations, media

Can my current or previous job experience be applied toward Life Experience credit?
Many part-time jobs, full-time jobs, and internships may qualify for Life Experience credit. However, keep in mind that that it is the learning, which results from the experience that merits academic credit, not necessarily the experience itself. Contact our Life Experience expert to see if your previous work experience and knowledge qualifies.

Can volunteer work count toward Life Experience credit?
Yes! Depending upon the type of work and amount of time invested, volunteer work may apply. Contact our Life Experience expert to see if your volunteer work and knowledge qualifies.

Can Life Experience credit be applied to other courses not specific to my major?
Life Experience credit can be applied to any undergraduate course offered from the College of Professional Studies.

How is Life Experience credit granted?
Those interested in requesting Life Experience credit are interviewed and tested by our Life Experience team for course proficiency. Each person's eligibility for Life Experience credit is individualized based upon his/her experience. Additionally, a CLEP exam, internal exam or portfolio/eportfolio may be requested for consideration of credit. Students' competency exams and eportfolio evaluation will be completed as part of the Admission process, so students will know upfront how many life experience credits they are earning. Life Experience credit will be issued to students following the completion of 12 University credits.

How much will I save with Life Experience credit?
Based on the Undergraduate Tuition Academic Year 2012-2013 (Summer 2012-Spring 2013), students who qualify will save $1,158 per credit awarded, or $3,474 for a 3-credit course.

Can I take my courses online through a Online Learning option?
Criminal Justice and Administrative Studies can be taken entirely online. Select courses can be taken online for all other participating majors.

Can I choose a St. John's University undergraduate program outside of the College of Professional Studies?
No, at this time, Life Experience credit is only offered with select majors from the College of Professional Studies.

I work during the day. Can I take evening/weekend classes?
Evening classes are available for select courses. Weekend classes will be available starting with the Spring 2013 semester.

As a non-traditional student, can I Study Abroad?
Absolutely! Select courses are available for International Education. Speak with our Life Experience specialist to see which courses would be applicable for your major.
