Magistrate Judge Smith was appointed to the bench in 1995.
She is a graduate of Earlham College (1977) and Duke Law School
(1980). Following law school, Ms. Smith was an Assistant
District Attorney in King’s County from 1980 to 1985. After a
year as Assistant Attorney General for the Appeals & Opinions
Division of the New York State Department of Law in Albany, she
rejoined the King’s County DA’s office as a Supervising Senior
ADA. In 1987, Ms. Smith became an Assistant United States
Attorney for the Southern District of New York (Criminal Division),
where she served in the White Plains branch office until her
induction as a United States Magistrate Judge.
